Frequently Asked Questions

Common
Questions

In most cases, yes. The MTL actuator is designed with standard mounting configurations (clevis front and rear, flange) that mate to common hydraulic cylinder mounting points. Because it replaces the entire hydraulic system — not just the cylinder — you will also eliminate the pump, motor, reservoir, and hoses. Our engineering team can review your current machine drawings and advise on fit and any required modifications.

MTL accepts 110V single-phase, 208V single-phase, 220V single-phase, 208V 3-phase, and 220V 3-phase. The unit connects with a standard plug — no hardwired connection is required for most configurations. For 20–30 ton models, 3-phase service is recommended for optimal efficiency and motor longevity, but single-phase operation is available.

Routine maintenance is minimal compared to hydraulic systems. There are no fluids to change, no filters to replace, and no seals that routinely fail from pressure cycling. Periodic inspection of the ball screw, motor brushes (if applicable to your model), and electrical connections is recommended annually or per duty cycle. When a component does wear, the actuator is designed for easy disassembly — a worn part can be replaced at the machine with standard tools.

The MTL actuator may carry a modestly higher initial cost than a comparable hydraulic cylinder alone. However, when you factor in the complete hydraulic system cost — pump, motor, reservoir, hoses, valves, fittings, oil, and installation labor — the gap narrows significantly. Add the 5-year operating cost advantage (energy, maintenance, fluids, downtime) and MTL is the lower-cost choice over any realistic product life evaluation.

Standard configurations ship in 4–6 weeks from order. Custom stroke or mounting configurations typically require 6–8 weeks. For OEM production programs, we work with you to establish blanket order agreements and stocking arrangements that support your production schedule.
